Cool blades of grass slip
between bare toes
as we run laughing,
playing tag,
in the twilight hours,
the sun sinking down,
burning bright colors
to softer shades of gray.

A smiling moon rises
casting her glow
and a velvet, diamond
laden sky hangs heavy
in the night
as we now chase fireflies,
capturing their brilliance
in our palms
and then releasing them.

Honey soaked air
clings to our skin
sticky sweet,
thick air
hugging us close
as we fall to the ground
laughing, trying to catch
our breath
and we watch the fireflies
mingle with the stars.

Hair sparkling with dew
tendrils plastered to face
echoes of laughter
still hang in the night
and moisture thick air
still holding onto
the heat of the day
as we now lay dozing....
reminincing on those
sultry summer nights.
