Rays of sun beat
down upon bowed heads
belying the day.
Mourning fills the
air as composure
begins to fray.
Sobs are heard
gently and then
grow stronger.
Realization hits
that she's with
us no longer.
In the open casket
people drop an
array of flowers.
And still they
stay with each
passing hour.
Finally the coffin
is lowered into the
ground, out of sight.
Everything pauses
as people remember
that night.
The tears that
have run stop
momentarily.
Knowing now that
she will be
forever free.
