I would be spending
tomorrow with you
laughing
and talking
hugging
and kissing
and loving...
stories to tell
and people to see
reconnections made
with the family
If things hadn't turned
out this way
and I could have
stayed
I would place flowers
on her grave
with you by my side
as we prayed
that we would be okay
the tears would flow
and we would hold
each other close
If things hadn't turned
out this way
and I could have
stayed.
We would be kissing
under mistletoe
and maybe making a fire
pretending that its cold
lighting up the tree
and looking wistfully
at her stocking
If things hadn't turned
out this way
and I could have
stayed.
We would be ringing
in another year
happy to be
with each other
we would be celebrating
number four
but we closed
that door
If only things hadn't
turned out this way
and I could have
stayed...
