Six again
In my mind
Just like always,
I’m left behind.
Just a little girl
Compared to what
You can see
When your eyes shut.
You’re hearing my “I love you’s”
And believing it for sure
But when you open your eyes
All you see is this little girl.
You’re well beyond my years
You’ve made that clear to me
But behind closed doors
Is where you set your heart free
You’ve loved me too many times to forget
But it haunts you way too much
And it’s only with your eyes closed
That you let yourself feel my touch
You forget for that moment
How young I am to you
And let everything about me
Love everything about you.
But it’s later when we’re not alone
That you push me to the side
And I can’t help but feel
Like a six-year old inside.
You laugh and say
I’m too young to understand
But underneath the table
You’re holding my hand.
And healing skinned knees
Comes easier than healing a heart
So I’ll stick with being that little girl
That you’ve wrecked and tore apart
I’ll be just fine, don’t you worry
If you want, go on your way
Because this little six-year old
Doesn’t know love anyway.
