He caught the eight o’clock train to LA
That’s what the note said atop the TV
But I’m looking around at all the things he left
His brown jacket, his laptop, and his Def Leppard tee

There was so much traffic on the bridge
And my meeting ran much too late
But would any of it have mattered?
You were never the type to wait.

Part of me is telling the other half
“He’ll be back as soon as you’re missed”
But the smarter half knows better…
“You’ll have to forget he ever did exist”

But my fighting sides are drowned out
By the loud beating in my chest
The rhythm gets louder but slower
With every agonizingly painful breath

I wonder if you’ll ever think about the things you left
Your brown jacket, your laptop, and that worn out tee
These things are always replaceable
But there is one thing you left that isn’t…ME
