Humming bird blood
Is thin
And humming bird
Hearts beat
Like slight African war drums
Their wings pound as quickly
As rounds and rounds
Of gun
Shots

Elephant skin
Is thick
And elephant bones
Support
Heavy hides
The elephant moves
Slowly, plowing
The grass
And brush
Like a tank.
Tusks,
Sharp as obsidian
arrow heads

The Jaguar frame
Is sleek
And golden
Cold as ice
Like bullets
Jaguar paws are
Huge and silky
Great boxing gloves
With claws
keen as knives

dolphin tails
are gray
dolphins are touched with
swiftness
agile
harpoons; witty
toothy

human eyelids
are translucent
pale shadowed things
that flutter
with the indiscretion
of foreigners

human arms
are long and brittle
bent at the elbow
like a fragile hinged
child's toy

human feet
are paddle like
and stealth-less
flat as boards
and loud as the
slap of lapping water

the human mind
is boundless
electricity
shocks
infinite thoughts
epiphanies of heaven
star and moon and mountain

in the vast realm
of abstraction
and potential
the human mind
is bent upon
the silence of death
and melancholic violence

'pure deadly poetry' is right; this has all the skill and sleek predatorial qualities of a late night poet-stalker seeking the hide of raw words as their prize! Powerfully structured, the images and analogies are sublime and they affect the conscious like a stray bullet affects the pulse....or maybe a spear to the heart? Impressive language, great message - just superbly concieved theme with all the beef to back it up....topus notchi!!

I am nearly speechless about this piece. No words I have could do it justice. Makes me want to be an animal instead of a human. Well done.

This is wonderful -so poignant and true -I think of the irony of man mythologizing the wolf as a demonic figure -as if the wolf had brought man to the brink of extinction. Unbelievable write -thank you for sharing

What astute observations. The first line caught me. Who would have related a hummingbird to bullets? I'm amazed at how you weaved images of serenity and innocence with images of war and destruction. I absolutely love this piece! *FAVE

Intensily imaginative. I agree with it being odd. It reminds me of a trip through the gold mines.
