Within the shadow of the mountain
a single peony blooms...
beauty in it's purity,
radiated for an instant...nothing more
then faded quickly into dust
succumbing to time itself

though weeks passed by
it was only a fleeting moment
a simple dream within a dream
looking to the mountain
i ponder it's existence

within the shadow of the mountain
beauty rises and falls...
i look to my life and wonder...
does my life's beauty fall as quickly
to the mountain, as the peony did to me
