'What a beauty,' they said
'How exotic and charming'
What they'd give for her smile
Self-assured and heart-warming
Full of love, hope, and faith
Flawless silk-woven skin
They had no idea
What pain lurked deep within
They had never seen
Her wrists gleaming red
'She could never hurt'
'She's perfect,' they said
They had never heard
The sound of her cry
When she was alone
And had room to die
All people know
Is how the light shines
When she's on stage and singing
Or acting out lines
But she doesn't mind
She'd prefer if nobody knew
Because no one deserves
To go what she's going through
