I had a friend who was a fish
He made me happy and never complained
I'd feed him fish flakes every day
And watch him swim around

I left one night and stayed out late
I went driving round town with some friends
I didn't come home that night or the next
And when I returned my dear fish was dead

A beautiful fish was once red with life
But now dried up like a dark brown bloodstain on my bed
I dread the image of how he escaped
with a flick and a whip of his fins
hopping around, gasping in the air
unable to live any longer

*-I did not starve my fish-*

I had a South American rope fish that looked like a snake. They like to crawl up onto rocks. One morning i found him DRY on the floor and not moving. In an act of blind hope I put what I assumed was his carcass back into the water. A moment later he shook and started moving. Sometimes you get a second chance.
