I want to remember you
Without getting lost in the past
Daydreaming of things that cannot be
A love I won’t outlast
And I have moved on
But not yet gotten so far ahead
That I can’t see you there behind me
Or hear words you said
Seeing you sporadically
Throughout the years since
And so little has changed in my love
A softened presence
I miss my best friend
A lover that held me in tenderness
And the youth that I associate you with
The years of innocence
I can no longer give
The passion and adoration
That I first had when love was new
A heightened sensation
Am I still holding on
Forever true to a memory
Continuing to resurface time and again
So faithful internally
Or am I afraid
To loose myself over again
Deep inside of someone else’s soul
Hesitating from within
I know it is both
And I am still finding it hard
Within this forever lingering warmth
And the heart I guard
