i was a shy kid but i had
such self-confidence.
riding a carousel horse,
i was told to hold on
and i bypassed the reins
and the pole and instead
i gripped my jacket
as tight as i could
and held on,
just like daddy said to.

i mislaid bits and pieces of
that confidence in later years,
and clutched at so many
unstable poles and
broken reins;

but i had never fallen
from that carousel.

Grip your jacket.
Hold on tight.

I always hung on as a child but anymore i tend to let go of anything that would help stop the free fall. Sometimes i think i was right before.. this is very thought provoking but leaves me feeling torn between placidity and angst

Yes, I do listen to Skyclad. Most of my inspirations come from gothic music such as Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania. I didn't know how else to reply (damn newbie !)

what art doesn't yearn through pain; reflect...situate; this reminds me of a poem by Liz Lochhead called...errr...."Carnival Horses"? That vivid feel of innocence and of the fairground. This is emotionally surging and delicate somehow.....words without ex

"hold on" Stunning... absolutely vivid, poignant, sad, real... A soul revealed and hope for others ("Grip your jacket") in this 'carousel' lifeRide... what else can anyone do? Simple yet complex="10".

This makes me smile because it is SO true. when the chips are down, you can always count on yourself. And me. You can hang on to my jacket any time you want. xxx

this is a little bit of wisdom mixed with a fear of letting go. yet, also, the difficulty of finding something to hold onto. your words always leave me digging into the core of my being. very insightful

some of yours ideas seem a bit disjointed, but interest sprawls across your scrawlings.

Some of the best poetry are disjointed scrawls... puzzles, enigmas, layers, Hughes, e. e.; we are all teeth to our pens from the simplest something to the most complex nothing.

That could match your creative art. I simply love this one of yours as much as the others you have written over time. An honour indeed to be one of those you share these soul pieces with. Much love and all. Peter

It might just be me, but the whole part about a woman holding on to unstable poles screams falos to me! Apart from the fear of that beeing true, I have to say that this reminds me of a Simpsons Eppisode and the fact that there is not one poet on this site
