There’s a fire in my head
A sea of faded red
This wasteland in my brain
Is an island of lonely pain

My soul is charred and black
My heart pitted and cracked
My world has gone insane
All my dreams have died in vain

For surcease of pain I search
My nemesis, “Self-hatred” is perched
On my shoulder, he sits and weeps
Over my futile attempt to keep

My spirit whole, intact
But my mind shatters from the impact
Of the weight of all this shame
And smothers my heart with it again
