As she fled to her chamber thoughts
Tortured her needlessly, mercilessly
While stairs impeded her slippered feet
Scenes where eyes and flowers lied
In the soft summer that was beginning
Make her scramble up faster
Screaming towards the heavens
If only he had not promised…
Running straight towards the rampart
She jumped moaning his name

As the coyote howled she fled
Snaring her chemise on mesquite
Bringing blood sharp and stinging
Trying to erase the images
Frozen in her memory…
Her beloved in candlelight sweating
In the arms of another
Feet kicking up puffs of dust
While eyes seek the moon
She fell cursing his soul

As the gunshots echoed she shivered
Hiding underneath the satin tablecloth
Watching as history turned again
Slowly shaking and trembling
She reached out towards that shiny
Object that held all death
Staring at the one that started
It all… the one she vowed to love
Till death do us part…screaming
She shot with all her heart

As the door slammed behind him
She slowly hung her head
Silently cursing her heart for
Giving in once again
Believing in the dreams…lies
Sitting on the couch sighing
The blade finally touches skin
Releasing a flood of forgiveness
Washing over a tired soul
She died breathing his name

As the song ended…she watched
As you slowly walked away
She knew this was coming…
She prepared endlessly
She toughened up, learned control
Turning she saw something else
That catches her attention
Bottling up those emotions
She forget they were even there
Passing away never even knowing

I watch you now…heedlessly
Jumping and starting at your every move
Trying to see the future
Will you hurt me?
I sometimes run around in circles
Screaming because I fear
Letting you see my history
Only stopping when you touch me
Sighing when you encounter scars
I dreamed death in your arms

Still you run away…
Won’t you stop and see
This creature that has shaped me
She haunts my nightmares
So broken and used
Still hopeful and beautiful
Giving up all for the sake of love
She crumbles at the emptiness
That comes from those words
I extinguish all…life…hope…dreams

Don’t you want to be her?
