We plant our lives so far below us,
In hopes to find them when we're dead.
Sip so needily on the fountain of ignorance
Nurse the tit of apathy
Dragging our bodies through vast deserts
So that our minds can come to find
A place of nothing trapped between the folds
So perfect, so empty
For us to dry out our souls
And we've become so dead inside
That humanity as a whole
Needs to find something else to destroy
In order to replace our own souls
And we care nothing of anything but ourselves
We don't feel and we don't care
Lining up all the weapons on our shelves
With which we desecrate our earth
And build up structures so tall
We choke the sky
Fighting to breath and fighting to see
Smothered in our cities
On a world so deceased
And we kill one another
On the edges of our forked tongues
And those in power pollute so heavily
And we breathe their poison into our lungs
We lie, cheat, and steal
We kill all that is beautiful
And destroy all that is real
We practice violence and aggression
And impose pain and oppression
Tell so sweetly in your ear, a lie
Torture and torment
As so painfully plunge in your back, a knife
And on our face dawns a smile while you die
Why does humanity still exist?
Why does Mother Earth tolerate this?
And I try so hard
To separate myself from all of this
From the world we've created
And the evil that we are
But humanity is within me
Despite my attempts to carve it out
You can't hide from society
But I wish so much
That there was something I could do
And I wish so much
That I could leave this behind
In order to find something true
I try so hard
To do what I do
But regardless of how hard I try
I can't seem to separate myself from you
To distance myself from this world
I wish I could...
