The Kite detached itself from the string
Said it needed to be free
Said it felt bad for humans
And their need to get caught up in petty things.
Said it was proud it didn't belong to any sex or race
Proud to be ageless and undefined
Classless on the hierarchy
Made it the only one of its kind.
It flew on to different lands
It flew over the sea
Found out humans are the same everywhere
Even if they refuse to be.
Since it was closer to the heavens
Than any human being
It could testify that we are all worshipping the same god
And that we are all praying for the same things.
It saw that pain is pain wherever you go
From America to Russia, Sudan, and the Bay of Bengal
If your child dies, it hurts
Whether you're living in poverty, or you have it all.
It made up its mind about "helping out"
That it should not involve killing on another country's soil
It should be genuine, true, and honest
And should have nothing to do with being motivated by oil.
The kite thought about the word "unity"
Wondering, "What does it mean to me?"
"It apparently doesn't mean anything to anybody."
Someday the whole world will die
Unless first we open our eyes
If we just stopped ruling our lives with lies
In anguish and frustration the kite cried,
"Shouldn't the human species just unite?!"
And on that day,
The kite got it right.
