I remember waking with blood on my hands
And a quiet numbness where an ache had been
Saw a light reflecting off the bedroom wall
Figured she must be reposed somewhere in the hall
After minutes of staring blankly, I turned my head
Everything everywhere seems to be engulfed by red
Blood adhering on the sheets all tussled around
Blood adhering on my lucky shirt and her favorite gown
I slowly peered into the room adjacent the bed
Where a battered chandelier swung twisting overhead
Blood adhering to the cord of the cordless phone
Blood adhering on the screen and the remotely remote
It all happened so fast I began getting vexed
Wondering and afraid of what might occur next
The lights had formed shadows on the entrance door
The markings of the struggle scattered on the floor
Blood adhering to the broken vase and picture frames
Blood adhering in even the smallest domains
Covering the matchbook on the table in my view
Yet how it formed there I gathered no clue
Muscles tensed anxiously when I heard a noise
Merely the feline scratching at her bloodstained toys
After growing tired of confusion, I felt the need to weep
I then lowered my dizzy head and went back to sleep .
