I had a drink with the Devil
It was not quite what I expected
It sat there with its head so level
That mine seemed disconnected

"You know I'm really not so evil

And you shan't outlive the crow"

It lift its glass and took a sip
And saw its face in its reflection
It stared and bit its lip
And then it glared in my direction

"Why are you so stupid?
Why squander such potential?
When you could live a life committed
To love what's so essential"

"Such a self-destructive species
You live to throw it all away
Killing is an expertise
While love is a cliche"

It leaned back for just a second
But its face remained austere
Yet with a graceful hand it beckoned
For me to ease my fear

"You know some love that's lost is found again
The rest is nevermore
I feel it flow from you, a fountain
Replacing hate you had before"

"But don't you dare lose hope, my friend
I see it simmer in your eyes
So even in the bitter end
You can tell me that you tried"

"As for me, I have my place
Though man can't understand
I still have all time and space
And every heart held in my hand"

With these words, it stood and grinned
And held its breath awhile
Then it turned to dust and wind
But started laughing like a child.
