My mind is gone:
techno-danced itself
away, leaving
cobwebs, flies
spiders, swarms.
My heart grinds on
like coffee-jitter
beating its way
through angered insects
buzz, drum, buzz:
rolling like waves.
I felt so fine
passing fifty dollars
to a man with no face
for two green pills
stamped with
seducing smiles.
I’m asking for water:
weak voice in the din
crying this is important
over music and lights
this is the difference
between
experimentation
and cliche
(hospital room where
Dad shakes his head
Mom cries
“Where did we go wrong?”)
I wake at home
with a headache,
leave the couch
nauseous, needing only
toothpaste and Tylenol
before work.
