i watched
those around me
be programmed
into life
how to think
believe
and be
was laid out
for them
in pixels
and subtitles

i tried to
tell
the masses
about the corruption
the secrets
the lies
why it is so
important
to think for yourself

and they waved their flags
and chanted
"america!"
as they came towards me
with their newspapers
and remotes
"freedom!"
as they bound me
tightly
for my heresy
"independence!"
as they turned
as one collective
a hive
of buzzing
swarming
inconsistencies

desperate
i cried into the crowd
"but i speak truth!"

and the crowd
turned
replied
as one

"it is not truth we seek"

i do agree. the last line was a prodigal smack in the face. I was nodding from beginning to end.
