cloudy sky above me
and i wonder
for a minute
if it's worth the trouble
the headache
to work
towards making
life
a little
better

color catches me
ensnares me
and i turn
look
and
learn

a carefully
tended
cared for
bit
of
shrubbery
with brilliant
sterile
flowers
lightly touched
with
the sweet
purple
breath
of spring

and
erupting
unwelcome
from the center
the pastel
purity
of
order

vivid
yellow
anarchy
tall
strong
nodding golden heads
defiantly
daring you
to cut them back
when they know
that you know
they will return
bolder
brighter
stronger
than
before

they don't need to be invited
this is their land
their space
a little bit of earth
that they belong to
and they're willing to fight
for their right
to exist

in a little
organized
garden
the struggle
the revolution
trumpets

i look
at the dandelions
and marvel

i raise my head
eyes narrowed
new resolve

and i plunge
into
the wild
growth
of
change
