yes
we all have pain
we all cry
we all have sorrow
we all suffer

we all
have the right to express
the way we feel
and have it respected

\ \ \ counterpoint / / /

the way i feel
may not be
acceptable
to others

i think wrapping yourself up
in someone else
for "love"
or something like it
is dangerous
and stupid
i think there are good reasons
for depression
and silly ones
i think there's a culture
of quick fixes
and cutting
suicide
are just different
types
of drug
and i am prepared
to have someone
tell me
that the things i write about
are foolish too

i post anyway

/ / / point \ \ \

i love poetry
written from the heart
i love to poke inside
the words of another being
i cry
with the sorrowful
i bleed
with the desperate

to have someone
decide
that my words
are poorly placed
is certainly
a disappointment
and hard to hear

\ \ \ counterpoint / / /

it is not
the subjects
of poetry
i protest
but the intent
and execution
of your muse's blessing

i honestly
don't care
what your poem is about
a well written suicide poem
or lyric about obsessive love
will catch my eye

art is art
i appreciate art
well written poetry
is just that
and i find that
enjoyable to read

be yourself
they say
but only if
yourself
is acceptable
to them
nonconfrontational
or at least
unwilling to express ideas
differing
from theirs

what the hell kind of live and let live is that?

you ask for commentary
you get it
i ask for commentary
i get it
good
bad
that's how people feel
who'm i to tell them what they can express
and what isn't appropriate?

i post
and when i post
i acknowledge
that people may adore my works
or hate them
and as they have the right
to praise
me
place me
on a pedestal
they have the same right
to burn me at the stake

that's the risk
for my art
that i am prepared to take

i post
and it is not
without that risk
someone may see my heart
poured out
into carefully chosen words
and decide
to destroy me
with them
scorn me
for what i feel

or embrace me
offer me support

i click the button
take a deep breath
and
blindly
roll the dice

knowing
that at least
i am satisfied
with my work

***if you don't want comments on your poetry... there's a no comment button. :) just as you're free to praise and romanticize suicide, death, obsessive love, etc. etc, i have the same and equal right to say what i feel about it. ::shrugs:: you can't have one without the other. there's balance.***

I agree whole heartedly. If it's a good poem but it happens to be about suicide, I'll tell them my views on suicide but make sure they know that their poem was worth my time reading it though.

And there's more that I would like to say but I fear I would go on and on and just be repeating what has previously been commented. *shrug* it happens. And just so you know, I've always loved your poetry. :)

Its relatively impossible for me to go through this without agreeing with most of it, i just think this is dealing more with people not being able to deal with bad feed-back on their stuff which is kinda immature but it runs deeper than that

i don't think so- if you write a suicide poem, and someone says suicide is dumb... sorry, but you CHOSE to not click the no comments button, and you've got to take both sides of the commentary. or you're free to delee them yourself. :)

On Monday September 29th, 2003, anathema (62) writes:
my point? people asking for comments need to be willing to accept them. some people love suicide poems... others hate them... and some of us like well written work, whether it's about suicide, sex, or purple elephants.

and honestly... yeah... i have some standards for what i think is good and bad poetry. that's the thing- it's not a judgement on the feelings, or the situation- it's about how the work was put out there. we all have preferances... things we can relate to,

Poetry is poetry I think it has no right to be rated or graded. We put are thoughts down on paper and what so eagerly for someones comment on it. It makes me laugh at these stupid humans. I dont have anyone to impress but me. I like what I like and no one

I think its great that you wooul have a subject like this out, i like reading what people have to say about suicide though most people her frown upon have a work regarding such things! impresive work ~Tears~

No one can change that. There are people out there that say what they want and jugde poetry but who they hell are they to say what is good poetry and what is not. Suicide poems I like because you get a different point of view every time. All I see on here

On here are poems of lost loves and regained hop but all in a different persecptive, like suicicde poems. Poetry is poetry, not good or bad. I dont like to judge nor do I like to make-up peoples mind for them. When you realize that, then you can call your
