And so it's settled.

I will pack up the circus
and head on home -
ticket sales have been down
and I don't think the
interest is there as it
once was.

The Puppet Show is dark now -
the audience has cleared,
we've all seen the strings
and your show
left me empty inside.

For a while I was mystified
with the magic
you seemed to exude from inside
but now that light
has dimmed to none
and I think it's time
I let you go.

They say a leopard never
changes it's spots
and I should never have tried
to rescue you from a life
you were happy living.

(I just don't see
why someone like you
would ever need to
discount yourself?)

You see I thought that
maybe if I was in love enough
for both of us,
eventually you would understand
the impact just your smile
or your kiss
seemed to have on me.

But the smiles have been
put away
neatly in little drawers
and the kisses
have evaporated to nothing
more than fuzzy
after thoughts.

And so I sit under
the blur of someone
who almost broke into
your world -

A forgotten shadow
of someone you once
thought might be
worth loving.

i like the analogies throughout...the only negative thing I have to say is that maybe it lacks continuity..but if you hadn't said you were unhappy with it I would have enjoyed it as is...
