A mad rush, to check your e-mail, check your answering machine or voice mail, did you miss a call?

A familiar sounding ring: is that yours? Make a spectacle of yourself, searching your pockets or backpack or purse trying to locate that little phone.

What the hell!? Are you that scared of being disconnected, you have to be able to be reached? What the hell!?

How can you stand it? Every moment of every day, carry your phone, check your messages... afraid to not answer.

And notice the one day you forget your phone at home you're worried sick: "What if somebody tried to reach me and I didn't answer?"

Cell phones and other forms of electronic communication lure people into a dependant state of security. Once it's gone, you're scared because you feel empty, and alone. Cut off from the world.

Why can't you just disconnect?

I have to say on this but I'd probably put myself to sleep. We rely to much on technology. But if you think about it: if we disconnect from that, we disonnect from life...

Yeah, though on a deeper level it's not just about cellphones... it's about anything... IMs, e-mail, phones in general... we're a little too dependant, methinks.

Tyler Durden, baby. What's sad is I have a cell phone... but I can't get rid of it because too many people have the number and they all use it. AGH!

I need my celly for all da hos! Na, it's human nature to be connected, we must have acceptance and connection to the ones we love, or we will go mad. It's that simple. Ah well, good write.

I actually sometimes purposely leave my cell at home. I have no need for connection with people. As long as I have a cat and some catnip I'm all set.
