I’ll play dress up in
The clothes you bought me
But I’ll make sure not
to let
Them
Catch me in my party shoes
Lest they start to expect
Too much
Don’t let Daddy hear you screaming
Never let anyone see you cry
Make sure you neck is covered
And your feet are always warm
Because frankly,
We don’t want another accident
I’ll never let you see me when I’m sad
But I’ll pretend instead
So you can have a reason to hold me
I’ll never let you know how I really feel
Because it may destroy all of us
I’ll always tell you what you want to hear
Because I am in love with that smile
I always will be
You can join us for dinner
Or you can stay up here and pout
But no matter how much you try to cry
It’ll never get that blue stain
out of your blouse
We all love you,
but don’t let anybody know
because they might try
To take it from you
I’ll pretend that I don’t care
And I’ll pretend that I do
I’ll cater to your insomniatic tendencies
I will walk aimlessly with you
All night
As long as you keep me warm
I’ll show you what love really is
In a deserted parking lot
I will give you desert floors
and mountain tops
and all the “kiss-me” looks along the climb
I’ll sit humbly in your passenger seat
With my hands folded
Wondering if you really care at all
