"Declaration of Regret" by Rachel

My dearest,

I tossed petals to the wind as they whispered in your ear-
I love you. I love you not.
I love you.
I love you not.
Hand-fed apathetic ramblings from my sympathetic soul,
You never could see the truth
behind my feigned indifference.

I learned the lesson of a fool:

"If you love something, let him go.
When he returns, repeat.
Tell him you never really loved him
and cry yourself to sleep.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat."

Who would have ever thought it possible-
I broke my own heart.

You would have yourself piece it back together again
but I fear the shards would cut your fingers.
And you've suffered too much already.

I could say I'm sorry,
But apologies are meaningless.
Simple words anyone can say,
and change nothing.
The result would still be broken.
What once was one
I've forced into two.

So instead, I'll leave you this note.
This declaration of regret,
hidden amongst the clutter,
and hope you'll find it one day.

That being said,
We've reached the ending of an era,
The conclusion of which shall read:

"It is better to have loved and lost,
than to ever have loved me at all."

Live and learn but never forget.
Most sincerely,
Me.

Well, I, as others, can relate to this. Live and learn they say or repeat, repeat, repeat as I do. Now you've gone and made me sad. S.

This.. was absolutely heartbreaking. I could see this penned on yellowed parchment and placed into an envelope.. addressed to a lost love, but never sent. I hope one day you'll find flowers sprouting from this regret.

I loved how you kicked this off, reminded me of Italian Futurist poetry of the early 20th century, which I love (well some of it!) Again excellent use of precise words, precise execution of feeling! Nice one!!
