Tonight, I heard the story
of a man, his God,
and some footprints in the sand.

It made me pause to reflect
upon this path I've been led down.

I look to my past.
Where once there were two sets of impressions
now rest only one.
There WERE two, weren't there?
I can't see that far back.
It's been miles since then.
But you told me there were two
and I've always trusted you.

Now, though, when it matters most,
when dreams have turned to nightmares
and hearts to stone,
Only one set of prints can be found.

My eyes to the stars,
I ask God if he's still here
and hear nothing but the ringing in my ears.

my grandmother used to have a painting on her wall of the beach, the footprints and all that jazz, along with "footprints" written in the sky...i was introduced to that story at a young age and have always liked it...

..even to this day, though i'm no longer an avid believer/follower, the thought of that story comforts me and i shall soon be incorporating it into a short story of mine as well. (disclaimer: not an advertisement) i enjoyed this piece. -jedi-

Heavy. Sometimes I wish that the lack of the other set of prints is because I times were good enough to float so my feet left no impressions. It's usually a pretty nice day dream. ~Ship!

I read that Footprints story so many times and wondered myself the same thing. I love how you managed to get it out though. Awesome :)
