I stood in the doorway
Tears streaming down my face
This was not the first time you had left me
And, yes, I agreed it was for my own good
But still I stood there and cried
It seems now, that I knew
Maybe subconsciously I knew
That was to be the last time I saw you
The person I knew then vibrant, alive
Full of energy and love for life
The last time I saw you and knew who you were
Everything changed on that cold sunny day
The ride to see you seemed to take years
Had I lost you? What was to become of me
My protector, my friend
It had been you and me against the world
Forever
Without you where would I be?
Tears again streaming down my face
I saw you and was relieved
You were ok...alive...but not
Never again would you be the same
Not the person I knew, not the person I loved
Not the person that stood by my side all those years
That person was taken from me
On that cold sunny day
And from then on I stood alone
To make a life for myself with no help from you
...Tears still streaming down my face
