Anticipation

So there it is
The words that can’t be taken back
Said for all the world to hear

Clearly pronounced
Spoken with sincerity
Laced with conviction

Shock follows
Just as it was intended
Like the impact of a slap

Now we face each other
Uncomfortable silence
Permeating the space between

Our lives hinged
On whatever thoughts you have
And what is said next
