I want to put your beauty on canvas
Paint your visage with infatuated hands

I would paint every strand of hair
Taking years to perfect the way it captures light
Holding it as a halo above your head

If only I could match your colors
Capture your sparkle at the end of a brush
Let the bristles hold the crimson in your cheeks

But in my attempts, I would paint lines
Ruin your every curve

I would rob the earth of rose red
In my selfish pursuit to duplicate your lips

Even if I spent a lifetime painting your portrait
I would have less than the perfection of you

The painting would be but a dreamlike interpretation
Lacking a soul
An incomplete mystery with too few clues
The painted canvas would hang lifeless on the wall
Lacking your warmth and graceful movements
