I was taking a class on combat logistics and the instructor posed an interesting scenario:
You are driving a tanker truck as part of a convoy moving fuel and ammo to an army unit under attack 100 miles away. You are passing a village when a group of children waving and happy to see you, block the road in front of you. You know if you slow down, the children will start climbing over your vehicle in an attempt to shake your hand. If you allow that to happen, more and more grateful civilians will bog down your convoy. The alternative is to keep the convoy moving, running over anyone blocking the road. How do you proceed?
Keep in mind:
The army unit will get slaughtered if they run out of fuel and ammo
Your religious beliefs
The children want to show their appreciation for their new freedom
Could you sleep at night if you ran over two or three, eight-year-old children
You have friends in the unit under attack
Both sides of the road are mined
