"Truth" by Recycled

Would you survive in a world where no lies could be told?

Would you last 1 hour if you were asked,
"What do you think of my new haircut?"
and the truth was
"You might want a hairpiece to cover that up."

Would you endure 12 hours if asked by your boss,
"Are ya busy?"
knowing the truth was
"Naw, I'm just trying to beat the high score on solitaire."

Would you tolerate 24 hours when your spouse asked,
"What did you do today?"
and you reply
"I cheated on you with your best friend."

Could you stand 1 week after your parents asked,
"How's life?"
and you inform them
"You screwed me up so much, it'll take a lifetime to correct."

Would you make it 1 month if you asked your children,
"Do you love me?"
and the truth was
"I would if you wouldn't be so mean to me."

Would you want to go 1 year if you asked yourself,
"Do I love myself?"
and the reflection responded
"How could I?"

*Wrap yourself up in lies tonight and sleep well.
Or lie naked on the sheets and try to ignore the truth.

This was very refreshing, and haunting at the same time. I love the time progression, and with each increase the lies become more self-evident and painful. The last stanza is just great. wow. thank you - steuss

That was great. If our loved ones could hear our subtext would they still love us? Its sad, but alot of us would be hermits.

~glazed over expression~ but in truth just too deep in thought to come out. I felt like laughing at the beginning of this...because you seemed to open it up with humor. Slowly, so slowly you guided me into a more serious aspect of "Lies" and "truth"...I s
