Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law
The beaut’ful smile ne’er left his face.
An elegant leap; what swan-like grace!
His body, limp, the distance glided
And lovingly with Earth collided.
Yes, when he fell, he held his breath,
Anxiously waiting for his Death.
His heart pounding with great delight -
Anticipation mixed with fright.
The Earth reached up to take him in;
Ran to him with its arms akin
To lovers arms; ever-ready
To love him unconditi’nally.
One final look down from up high;
(And one more look up at the sky)
Burning, a feeling so intense,
The heavens feared his confidence.
One more last look ‘t his saxophone,
The one that he’d leave so alone;
The one creature he knew he’d miss,
Forever distanced from its kiss.
The spectacles of yellow glass
He cast beside his love of brass.
And suddenly the world appeared
Greyer than ever he had feared.
He stroked his beard one final time,
Recalled, again, his favourite rhyme;
Recalled, once more, November’s dance,
The wondrous times of yogic trance.
The evening haze; the grass so green;
The air fresher than it’s ever been.
In distant worlds the lips of Jove
Trembled as aft Phoebus he dove.
And as he dove thus through the air -
The wind caressing his grey hair -
He felt such freedom; joy unbound!
That he had lost ‘soon as he found.
When in the end he reached the ground,
And lay upon it without sound,
A stream of blood, long as the Nile
Escaped undeterred from his smile.
From closing eyes the world did part;
The last pang divorcing his heart.
Life’s idle business ‘n one gasp o’er,
His loves forgot ‘n’ beloved no more…
