i wake here to an empty room
counting flowers not in bloom.
children’s laughter all is gone.
(figure out what went wrong)

i stand here feeling sunshine rays
looking forward to other days.
living here amidst the pain.
(things to never see again)

i sit here huddled in my shell
amidst the tears, my heart does swell,
across the shore, and skies of night,
awaiting dawn; a whole new light.

i lie here thinking all alone.
hearing all the children moan.
how could i have let this be?
having their hearts break in me.

i sleep here dream of other things.
of candy canes and diamond rings.
of life before this tragedy
of life when I loved only me.
