Its hard to reply when people say, Thank you for serving...
What does one say to that, to say your welcome sounds cocky,

Why do they say it, do they mean it, do they truely know what it is we do over here, Do they know the pain we are going through,

Can they see the abuse our superiors give us, is it possible to show them what sacrifice really is, to live, breath, eat and die for this country,

A country who forgets about thier soldiers, who wants to spend money on useless things that in the end, have no meaning,

How is it that basketball players make 30 times as much as we do, and all they do is play a game they loveto play, They are treated like kings, as we lay in a ditch and sleep with dirt as our blanket.

I am not asking for your support, I am not begging for help, I am a soldier I can stand on my own two feet,

I merely ask, that if you dont feel thankful, dont say it, I would rather here the truth than hear the obligation in your voice,

I do what I do, so my children wont have to

Well seeing how many that vulentere for the U.S military I would say that it may be part of the problem(seen from a Danish sideline). It is pretty damn easy to toy with people that vulentere. They do not have to draft anyone, and by that they do not have to answer to much internaly.

No offense, but your screen name screams for recognition. And for the other day when I did thank you, I DID mean it. I saw a PBS special about everyday life on, I believe it was the Nimitz, that most certainly opened my eyes to the hardships and most importantly the very real and selfless sacrifices our troops make every day. Regardless though, I never would have said it, to you or anyone if I didn't mean it. So, yes, I do understand as well as I can without the actual experience, and I do sincerely mean it. As for those who speak 'lip service' well, to them you have a valid point. dig it.

'...do they truely know what it is we do over here, Do they know the pain we are going through...' well... don't expect much from the sideline. Reminds me of a woman giving birth.... concentrated pain through gritted teeth... sweating profusely... while her monday morning coach stands there like a waste of fucking space.. giving her a 'great job' w/ a thumbs up kinda smile. selfless sucks. nicely done.

And btw, saying you're welcome is not cocky, but anyone who is truly thankful when they say it doesn't need a response, the fact that you're doing it is enough and it's just an attempt to let you know that you're not doing it for nothing.

many people say it because they feel it is expected of them...I say it because I mean it...no one knows what things soldiers go through unless they are one...frankly, I would never want to know, I don't think I'd be strong enough to handle it...so that's why I appreciate what you, my brother, and all the soldiers do for me, because without you, there'd be no me. And the last line is superb and as a parent myself, I feel that in everything I do, but for you...I truly thank you, because you do it, maybe my kids won't have to either
