They smile in your face, and spit when you turn around

So happy to help you, so pleased to lend a hand.

The people are told, we are winning! They war on terror is comming to a halt,

yet here I stand, I see that what britany is feeding her kids is more important than 3 people dying from IEDs in iraq

The President claimed that the war was won, that it was over...YET HERE I STAND

away from my love ones, away from the sea, the trees, the land that i love

ironicly, tis the land where my people are more concerned with whats comming on mtv, how hard thier homework is, that this man or woman doesn't love me so i cant go on.

yet..here i stand

amist the darkness, within the flames that consume me, There is a small light, at the end of the tunnel, an angel, a ray of hope...

Almost makes me so sick to my stomach that I want to walk over and turn the TV off. But then again I'm on the other end of where you're standing. But it's more like sitting for me. Or curled in a ball. Interesting perspective. A heart breaking one.

at least you have your loved ones, the sea and the trees to think of as a home. this may just be my imagination but i think it might be worse if there was nothing waithing for you at "home". that where you were might as well be your home for lack of anywhere else to go. in saying that, knowing what you're missing can be just as bad. i dont mean to offend you in writing this.. As a poem it is vey well written with vital points made. nice job. hope your return is safe.

Reading this makes me want to cry...My brother was just deployed to Afghanistan...I really hope he doesn't feel the things you do right now. Thanks you so much for fighting for me and everyone else here in the States. I hope you know that no matter what the consensus seems to be...there are people here that appreciate your courage, determination, and dedication. Keep writing...I hope it saves you from what you are living through. Your talent is inspiring.

I don't know you, and regardless of my stance on the war or high end politics for that matter - I want to hug you. Thank you for continuously putting your life on the line for people who can't even begin to understand what that means. Its amazing that you still see the light (Hold on to it)- may your 5 months fly, and may you fly home safely to the security of loved ones. ~Downstream~

Thank you for your service. I used to watch the Iraq death parade on News Hour every night but it just got too hard to see all those young kids who were no more. These sacrifices are not forgotten, they're just hard to absorb every day.

In a world where everything seems so wrong...so dark...there is always that light you must follow. Thank you.
