Hello, my name is fear
A bright burning cherub
Grinning obscenely, sitting serenely
On your chest

Once, you almost won the war
Just a little more patience
Sweet victory means nothing to me
Handcuffs of perception hold fast

You retreat smoothly with acid
Your platitudes sound just capital
A fearful heart would rather not start
Anything that could end badly

Observe my scale and magnificence
Just a safe little glimpse
Face me and you'll embrace me
Charmed with a safe existence

Ghosts of old dreams burned away
By the flames of cold regret
What might of been, as bright as sin
Presumptuous hopes of normalcy
