i slid off the wagon
down the rabbit hole
it was the path of least resistance
down the chute
and up the ladder
to sit on the fence
beside myself
i heard the beat of a different drummer
and took the road not commonly chosen
to stand in a field of dreams
i seized a moment
from the passage of time
turned on a dime
and found myself at a crossroads
two steps forward and one step back
dancing with myself
i crossed the line
into parts unknown
to read the writing on the wall
everyone has an opinion
they're a dime a dozen
dig a little deeper and you might uncover
a pearl of wisdom
in the sands of time
that one in a million
food for thought

Gadamer put forward an idea of experience that is different from the common understanding... if we often think of experience as something that cumulates. You see, he felt that every new experience did not add to a bank or store of experience, but re-wrote some part of what we had experienced. The idea is that in order to learn, we have to negate what we thought we knew. So every new experience contradicts something we had experienced to the extent that it is new. In this way, we do not just gather experience like nuts before winter, but we continually are re-writing our experience as we consistently contradict previous experiences/assumptions. I don't know but I thought of this phenomenology of experience when I read this. It's the two steps/3 steps bit... there may be no linear progression, but more of a circle, where we are always trying to perfect our web... what would we do without nature, where would we get our metaphors... pensive write.

Dare I say, "How cliche!" Yet you found a way to restate it today! I could throw a million pennies into a wishing well and not come up with such a creative collection of coined phrases.
