there are dark things in this world
hoodoo voodoo bump in the night things
what was that noise, turn on the light things
things we should respect
things we should steer clear of
while keeping a wary eye in the rear view mirror
they feed upon the ones too far
and the ones too close
they find the ones in the middle
are hard to swallow
the ones too close are the
modern day sorcerers
the would be witches, wizards, and vampires
chanting chat room protocol
as dogma
foolishly you offer yourself to the dark things
you know not what you stir in the shadows
you know not what has just caught your scent
you invite them right up to your table
to feed upon your obsequiousness
the ones too far
are the scoffers and scorners
the blindered ones of narrow view
with minds atrophied from lack of use
see only what they're told to see
think only what they're told to think
you too are easy prey
it's easy to sneak up on things
that refuse to see you
the ones in the middle
hold the wisdom
to the keeping of dark things at bay
they wisely acknowledge the possibility
without any need to embrace
if they stumble upon that which raises the hairs on their neck
they offer only a transitory greeting
a respectful tip of the hat as one would
to inhabitants encountered in any strange neighborhood
a "good day, just passing through, i'll be no trouble to you."
as they continue on their journey
open minds are slippery and hard to pin down
dark things can't get a grip on you
