you, my friend
with your ducks in a row
toeing the line
where did your chaos go?
you used to believe in Santa Claus
the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny
now you're all details
and worrying about money
you used to live on a shoestring
that you'd tied to a balloon
happily bouncing and bobbing
never fighting which way the wind blew
you never questioned the Universe
believed in it with all of your being
you wished on falling stars
and believed in things without seeing
you used to be a wild card
crazy nights and lazy days
now everything is planned
your god is your PDA
so as i talked to myself in the mirror
on this my forty-fifth birthday
there was only one thing to conclude
i took off my heels, put on my gum boots
called in sick
and went out in search of mud puddles
to spend my birthday frolicking in the fountain of youth
