i went to church every Sunday
at my parent's command
i have a profound memory
at the age of seven
of thinking
no thanks, this isn't for me
i'm going to figure this out for myself

illumination
--carve your own path and think your own thoughts--

i met a junkie
who's writing changed my life
he could quit anytime
but she couldn't
his muse
he told me she went elsewhere
for her inspiration
when he was clean
he couldn't, didn't write
she needed him to use
her poetry was woven
from the fabric of his opiate nightmares

illumination
--everyone you meet bears a gift, be open minded enough to receive it--

i chose to be a victim
for a while when life got tough
pointing fingers and worshiping
at the alter of
"i'ts not my fault!"
catatonic in my own self-pity
spinning in circles
until i realized
i bought the ticket
i got on this ride
i can chose to get off

illumination
--you can only move forward if you step out of the past--

I wonder...
How many illuminations do i need to get an enlightenment?
