bruised and weary
battle worn from her police action
you survived, wounded
shrapnel to the heart
when she detonated
into sharp words
with jagged edges

you tell me you have
a chronic condition
a small puncture wound
that just won't heal
love seeps slowly, steadily
from your heart
you fear diminution

i beckon you aphonically
because you flinch
when words get too close
come unto me
come into me
seep into me

each crimson drop
you spill into me
evaporates in the heat
of the moment
condenses in my lungs
that i may feed
love back into you
in the breath
of every kiss
and soft sigh
