i used to think
that kids who cut
were practicing
passive aggressive
attention whoring

until i met a girl
with scars on her arms
and scars in her eyes

she told me a story
about a toxic life
parents who brought a life into being
for all the wrong reasons
and when the novelty wore off
bought someone who's job was
to pretend to care
because there is no SPCA
for the children of whim

children need love and encouragement
direction and boundaries
not
parents who think treatment is
a long sleeved designer shirt

no wonder she wanted
to bleed their poison out

i question why
we have to pass a test to drive a car
and have insurance in case we hurt someone
but anyone can have kids
without demonstrating their ability to handle them
with due care and attention?

i used to cut because i liked the way it felt, i also liked the way the blood looked and it basically cleared up my head when i had too much on my mind.

i am 8 months pregnant and i think about this a lot, i despise those people that you talk about and i know that i am going to be a great mother and nothing like that, it's poetry like this that need to be read to massive groups of people even if only one person listens that might just make the difference for the rest of some childs life, my parents were those types and i hated them for there actions or "inaction" i also ended up being a cutter for that and as hard as it is to admit in a way i did it for attention, but now its not about attention and it's not just habit but a a true disease that i've been struggling with for years. i love this write thanks for making me think. happy chickens

Congratulations on your baby! The fact that you are already aware of how bad most parenting is...tells me you will be a wonderful mom!

i used to cut. i did it because i couldn't feel. the blood reminded me that i was alive.

so i am learning there are so many reasons for this practice..as many different reasons as there are people doing it..i am ashamed of my stereotyping...

yeah. lips. i cut. its nothing bad in my view. i'm not looking for attention. i'm not looking for anything but a way to shut myself up and show myself things that aren't right. it was an awesome write. and people who cut, don't naturally look for attention. they look for a way out. -mars

No, not that. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I mean I've witnessed the same thing before.
