but he knows far more
than little boys should know
about love
he says that love is
what you feel in your heart
(he points to his heart)
he says that love makes you smile
when you hear her name
(he softly says mine and smiles)

is the twinkle in your eye
when you look in the mirror
and think of her
(he closed one eye)
"can you see my twinkle?", he said.
i could see quite the twinkle
in his perfect green eyes
i asked,
"little boy, who are you in love with?"
the little boy took my hand and said,
