It's a startling revelation
to arrive at the realization
that I've been lacking
*both* the time,
patience
*and* the motivation
to achieve my own
self-actualization.

So you see, this is the situation
that I find myself placed in;
stuck behind, rereading past conversations.
Yet no new lines are being redrawn,
the same ones only being retraced and
instead of laboring to
repair communication,
we cut ourselves off, unable to achieve
emotional penetration.

Now we sit, facing
across the table,
not willing, yet able.
Fingers clenched, engaged in
twiddling thumbs until countless rotations.
Yet it, serves us to no end, this
mental masturbation.

Fresh. And I don't mean like the Prince. Airs of oldschool hip-hop, but you stayed smart. In the present. And that's cool. Nice work. Welcome.

The initial inspiration for this came out as spoken word. I continued the tone throughout the piece. If this sounds somewhat "hip-hop"-like, that may be why.
