My evanescent cloud
The shimmering silver smoke
Once thought to shield me
Is shattered

My eyelids no longer close
I see it all so clearly now
Too clear for my naïve eyes
I’ve truly tried to hold onto this
‘Happily-Ever-After’ state of mind

But that’s only in fairytales

I’ve been hypnotized one too many times
By knights in gilded armor
Dishonesty confused with honor
Why do I even bother?

In the end I’m still broken

A brittle token for my youth
Foolishly tossed away
At my dismay

But for every moon that rises
And for every sun that sets
I shall forever tell myself
“This too shall pass”
