Today marks the third year
That she has occupied this uncomfortable seat
She holds her lover's hand
Though he doesn't seem to notice in his coma
His body motionless upon the hospital bed
She crawls up and lies next to him
As she has done so many nights before
Holding him closely, she drifts off into a pleasant dream

The last moments they spent together before the accident
That she replayed in her head so often...
They sat together on the ledge of a cliff
Surrounded by the soft sounds of crashing waves
And bathed in the orange rays of a setting sun
Though she barely noticed
She was too busy listening to his voice
And her gaze was lost in his bright-green eyes
She ran her fingers over the ring on her hand
Having to remind herself this was real
She was engaged to the amazing man before her

-Torn from the dream
By movement in her hand
She opened her eyes and was met
By a bright-green gaze
Her heart leaped
But soon crashed
She trembled and stuttered saying his name
Never had an image scared her so much
As the look of confusion written across his face

She was told later by doctors
That his memory was nearly all gone
Never before
Had she cried as she did then

She spent the next month
Trying to prove them wrong
Each attempt she made resulting
In no more than another blank stare
In time he showed that this stranger was annoying him
He expressed sincere apologies
It became clear to her that she couldn't win him back
When he told her that his past had never happened
"I do not love you as you say I once did"

That night she stood on the edge of a bridge
She felt the ring upon her hand to remind herself
Of a time when the dream was reality
Tears forced their way out of closed eyes
As she jumped to her end

As she fell she recalled a scene from her past
They sat together at the edge of a cliff
She remembered his final words that night
As the sun slipped beneath the horizon

"I will love you

Always..."
