this is my journey
so I find myself placing
one sand-glazed foot in front of the other
as I walk the shorelines of apathy
in contemplation
considering the alternative
should I give a fuck?
just to be a bit more convincing
(to myself perhaps?)
I reach out and touch the ocean
meeting it as it ebbs at my feet
I cup a small bit of it in my palm
its dark, salted, wetness
reminds me of blood
and I say, “bleed for me
eternity”
as it slips from my hand
back into its own vastness
I realize that one day
I will bleed for it
into it
but not because of it
nor defined by it
and suddenly
the sun ascends over the grandest horizon
to find me smiling into oblivion
