undulating laughter from a seesaw
echoing stolen promises from the past
we were a curious lot of dwarfs then
tiny, little, dirty hands clasping pearls of wisdom
happy, little feet scampering boldly in delight
those were days full of nursery rhyme myths
and cartoon legends
Saturday morning bliss
slathered in sugary milk
with the last bit of breakfast cereal floating
in a sea of serenity too sweet to truly savor
we were gods then!
this world was OUR world!
our tiny little world!
what fools!
what genious!
divine simplicity filled our hearts
a world of bliss beckoned us
while giant beasts guarded us from harm
those talking trees so very laden with fruit
they held my hand in the darkness
and fear was something I’d vanish
with a Mickey Mouse night light
