i can still smell the campfire ashes
all those frozen summer nights
caught dancing in a spring of hope
i found you there amidst the stars
you promised me everything under a half moon

now i filter muffled tunes of yesterday
because i thought it cruel to grip them so tightly
and things that pass should always be sent away
(with a kiss)

that’s why i chased your shadows
even though i had to let them go
they still found me
falling closer to you

that last time i left flowers by your stone
i wondered if you felt the rain
i knelt there far too long
and my face was a river
of forgotten ashes
streaming campfire tunes
