I once knew my brother
when I was younger
not by his choice or mine
He was gone, was that a sign?

Both of us innocent and young
Memories that can't be erased
You moved on,
us, your family, you replaced.

I remember it so well
We didn't get to choose
You were honest, you told
What really happened, the abuse.

I was afraid, I said you lied.
For years endured, I've sat and cried.
I let him hurt me, I let him hurt you.
You got out, you tried.

The fear is what held me back
Years after you were gone,
He still continued his attack.
I was afraid, I said you lied.
For years, I remember you spied.

Your room was next to mine
You remember how I pretended to be fine
I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough
I'm big sister, I'm supposed to be tough.
